When Can I Get Pregnant During My Cycle?

Have you ever wondered, “Can I get pregnant anytime during my cycle?” The truth is, a woman can only get pregnant during a certain part of her cycle—and understanding that window can be really helpful.

How Your Cycle Works

Your cycle starts on the first day of your period and ends the day before your next one begins. While the “average” cycle is about 28 days, it can be a little shorter or longer for different women—and that’s totally normal.

The Fertile Window

The time you can get pregnant is called your fertile window. These are the few days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself.

  • Ovulation is when your body releases an egg (usually around the middle of your cycle).

  • The egg only lives for about 12–24 hours.

  • But sperm can live in your body for up to 5 days.

That’s why the fertile window usually covers about 6 days each cycle—the 5 days leading up to ovulation plus the day you ovulate.

Signs to Look For

Your body often gives little signals that ovulation is coming, such as:

• Cervical mucus that looks clear and stretchy (like egg whites)

• A small rise in your body temperature after ovulation

• Subtle changes like bloating, breast tenderness, or even a little extra energy

Why Cycle Tracking Matters

Because every woman’s cycle is unique, learning to track these signs can help you better understand your fertile window. Some women like using apps or charts, while others prefer paying attention to natural body cues. Either way, it can give you confidence and insight into your own health.

At the Pregnancy Resource Center, we know learning all this can feel like a lot. That’s why we offer educational classes where we walk with you through cycle tracking and help you understand your body better. If you’re interested, we’d love to connect with you!
